Description: From July through October, this you-pick-it farm offers a fabulous day. Located in Penrose about 45 minutes south of Colorado Springs off CO 115, the souvenirs taste pretty good, too! Depending on the season and weather during the growing season, you can pick gooseberries, raspberries, blackberries, pumpkins, pears, and, of course, apples. There’s no charge to get onto the grounds, and there’s a free tractor ride out to the fields and orchard (it’s not that far, but going out by tractor is half the fun). The by-the-pound cost of the fruit you’ve picked is more than reasonable. At the end of your harvest, the country store sells fresh apple or pumpkin pie, fresh-pressed apple cider, cheeses, olives, deli foods, jams, and blackberry cobbler. Fresh chilies are roasted on-site in the fall, and the owner runs an apple-smoked barbecue of brisket, turkey legs, and hot dogs on the weekends.
