Description: Yale University’s history and prestige make it one of the most selective and sought-after educational experience in the world. The 11,000 students that attend each year as well as faculty and staff make Yale’s presence in New Haven a significant social and economic factor. Founded in 1701, it is the third oldest university in the country, and second oldest Ivy League university. It is composed of Yale College, where undergraduates school; the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; and 13 professional schools. The library holds 12.5 million volumes, the second largest university library in the world, and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library houses, among other things, a copy of the Gutenberg Bible. Yale supports three museums—the Yale University Art Gallery, the Center for British Art, and the Peabody Museum of Natural History—as well as a collection of musical instruments.
