Description: Little Moir’s is not your average restaurant. Concealed in the back of an unprepossessing strip mall along US 1 in Jupiter, it looks something like a Key West bar that’s somehow been uprooted and trucked up north. It serves creative Caribbean cuisine (with a pinch of Asian for good measure), emphasizing the bounty of the local seas. Founder Mike Moir uses fresh local ingredients whenever possible and created a family-friendly place where you could also eat on an outdoors patio. The dining area is long and narrow, with a bamboo-canopied dining bar. Along the wall are fewer than a dozen colorfully hand-painted tables. The entire place is decorated with surfboards, life preservers, fishing tackle, tropical-themed paintings, photos of customers, and even children’s drawings. The cuisine includes at least 15 varieties of fresh fish. The restaurant is best known for its signature dish, sweet potato crusted fish, along with its tuna-basil roll, its panko fried oysters, and its barbecued chicken sandwich. Yet, there are plenty of customers who’ll tell you to order the scallops, or the Leftovers Café Plate sampler. Spices, sauces, and fruits from the Caribbean are used liberally in the cooking. And you can wash it all down with more than 25 types of beer, many from Caribbean countries. For dessert, you’ve gotta go with the Whozit, a white cake with a pinkish custard on top, and whipped cream and berries on top of that.
