Description: The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is a non profit, educational-based care facility for injured animals, and a place where wildlife and people can come together. The original facility here was called the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Environmental Education Center, established in 1983. A decade later, the Peter W. Busch Family Foundation joined forces with the center, and the result was the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary. Today, this sanctuary provides medical and rehabilitative care to thousands of wild animals each year, under the direction of a staff veterinarian. The ultimate goal is to return the animals to their natural habitats. The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary offers community outreach programs to over 50,000 people every year, with live-animal presentations and lectures. These sessions offer one-on-one contacts between people and wild animals. It’s a rare learning experience. The organization’s objective was to create a unique refuge that combines a community nature center with a wildlife hospital. You can also follow beautiful nature trails through pine flatwoods, oak hammocks, and cypress wetlands. Along the way, you’ll see wildlife habitats exhibiting a variety of native animals, from bald eagles to Florida panthers. Indoors, you and the kids will enjoy a hands-on discovery center where they can explore nature through a variety of interactive displays.
