Description: Eckerd College, located at the southern tip of the Pinellas Peninsula, began in 1958 as Florida Presbyterian College. Eckerd College is still related by covenant to the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is a private, coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences—the only national private liberal arts college in Florida. The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited Eckerd College to award the baccalaureate degree. In addition to drawing students from around the world to its residential student community, Eckerd College’s Program for Experienced Learners allows working adults to earn their degrees through creative programming and intensive study. PEL courses are offered on several satellite campuses around the Tampa Bay area. Eckerd College also offers continuing education opportunities through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and Elderhostel. Eckerd College has been included on numerous “Best-of” lists.
