Description: Located just across Hurricane Pass from Caladesi Island, Honeymoon Island State Park has a more rugged feel to its beaches. The island’s north end, where the waves often get to surfing size, by Florida standards, seems particularly wild and desolate. Honeymoon Island State Park, so named in 1939 when a developer built 50-some thatch-roofed honeymoon bungalows on the island, has miles of nature trails, swimming and snorkeling areas, and a café/concession area. Kayaks and beach supplies can be rented at the concession stand. Honeymoon Island State Park’s Pet Beach offers several miles of sand for pets to enjoy with their people. Rangers conduct occasional guided tours, and interpretive exhibits help visitors understand the ecosystems on the island. Admission to Honeymoon Island State Park is $5 for up to eight people per car or $3 for a single-occupant car. Just want to run out and see the sunset? Beginning one hour prior to sunset, the fee drops to $3 per vehicle. There is no overnight camping on the island.
