Today Morehouse is the nation’s only predominantly African-American, all-male liberal arts college. Its almost 3,000 students represent 40 states and 275 foreign countries; more than half graduated high school in the top 20 percent of their class. Of its more than 200 faculty members, almost 95 percent of assistant professors and above hold doctorate degrees. Morehouse confers bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees in 35 major areas of study. Morehouse’s most famous alumnus was Nobel laureate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; Morehouse is also where filmmaker Spike Lee spent his School Daze. Fourteen Morehouse men have gone on to serve as president of a college or university. Morehouse’s 6,000-seat arena was the site of early rounds of men’s and women’s basketball competition during the Olympics.
