Description: Morehouse School of Medicine began with 24 students in 1975; today it has approximately 290 students. The 240-member faculty includes many off-site community physicians who work with interns and students. MSM confers the four-year doctor of medicine degree, the Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences, and a master’s degree in public health. Residency programs at Grady Memorial Hospital have been established in family medicine, internal medicine, preventive medicine, psychiatry, obstetrics, gynecology, and surgery. One of the largest public hospitals in the Southeast, Grady is an internationally recognized teaching hospital with a historic commitment to the health needs of the most vulnerable. In conjunction with testing services to be performed, the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games provided $1 million to help MSM establish a research laboratory to study sports performance–enhancing drugs.
