Description: On the banks of the Chattahoochee River in northwest Atlanta, Canoe is housed in a barrel-vaulted brick building once known as Robinson’s Tropical Gardens. It’s said many a young romance bloomed at this riverfront restaurant and nightspot in the golden post-WW II years. Today, wedding parties have been known to arrive in canoes for a luscious reception. In accordance with its goal of offering delicious, healthy food for today’s diner, Canoe’s fare includes grilled farm-raised chicken with wild mushroom potato puree with port wine and cranberries; goat cheese and potato tortellini with artichokes, autumn greens, pine nuts, and white truffle oil; and a wild mushroom soup with polenta croutons. There’s also an assortment of beef and seafood. Canoe was hit hard by Atlanta’s devastating floods in September 2009, but remodeled and opened again to the delight of its regulars. You can call ahead for reservations, or take advantage of any waiting time to stroll riverside. Valet parking is available. Dinner is served nightly.
