Atlanta Marathon - Spectator Sports - Atlanta, Georgia

City: Atlanta, GA
Category: Spectator Sports

Description: For runners with more endurance, the Atlanta Marathon is run on Thanksgiving morning. The runners like it then, and if you’ve ever been in Atlanta in July, you’ll know why. And then there’s the prospect of a Thanksgiving dinner waiting at home for the exhausted runners. The course is a big loop, starting Downtown near Turner Field, winding up and down hills to near Chamblee in the northeast, and then back, covering a lot of the same territory as the Peachtree Road Race. For those not up to a full marathon, there’s a half marathon that begins at the same time as the main race but at the halfway point. Like the Peachtree, there’s prize money for the top seeded finishers, but the race is full of plenty of casual joggers who couldn’t get into the Peachtree but still want to test their mettle. For information contact the Atlanta Track Club at the address listed under Peachtree Road Race.
