Description: More than 55,000 schoolchildren visit this center annually. Kidstuff at the Chattahoochee Nature Center includes the chance to view small woodland creatures in the center’s wildlife rehabilitation program. Night Owls overnight sleep-ins featuring wildlife workshops, live animal demonstrations, and night hikes occur most Friday and Saturday nights from October through May. You must reserve a spot at least one month in advance. The center also hosts birthday parties, which include nature walks and other activities, for kids ages 4 and older. Summer afternoon children’s programs, on themes such as “Don’t Bug Me” and “Wet and Slimy,” continue the learning begun by the center’s after-school programs during the school year. Monthly Young Naturalist’s meetings benefit children ages 4 to 11. Those kids can also enjoy non-scary Halloween hikes in October, featuring an educational walk through the woods. Other outings include guided evening canoe floats. A summer day-camp program, Camp Kingfisher, increases awareness and appreciation of nature and includes traditional outdoor recreation. Weekly sessions run from June through August. Kids from 5 to 12 are eligible for this popular camp.
