Description: Designed by E. G. Lind in 1885, the Gwinnett County Courthouse evolved in an eclectic combination of Romanesque, Second Empire, and WPA styles. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it was last an active courthouse in 1988; an extensive renovation and restoration program was completed in 1992. The courthouse stands on a full block at the center of the Lawrenceville town square and around it are monuments, picnic tables, and a gazebo. In their upstairs headquarters, members of the Gwinnett County History Center will gladly give you information on other county attractions and historic sites. Society members staff the office from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Visitors are welcome to explore the courthouse on a self-guided tour Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission charge. The courthouse is available as a rental facility for public and private gatherings both large and small. Many antiques and gift shops, as well as restaurants and live theater, are around the courthouse square.
