Description: There are two things you notice when entering the Columbia Square Inn: the wonderful wide heart-pine floorboards and the white walls. Although some innkeepers prefer lavish draperies and antiques to match, proprietor Barbara Wall’s tastes are understated and elegant. There is no clutter here. The floors are nearly uncovered as are the windows, which reveal views of the fountain in the center of Columbia Square and a magnificent magnolia tree reaching to the top of the home. All rooms in the home, which the Walls restored several years ago (they occupy the ground floor), are spacious and decorated in the same manner. A leather settee or chair is neatly arranged in front of the fireplace along with a sofa to form a comfortable sitting area in each room. There are four-poster beds and armoires, and one of the rooms has an extra bedroom and a small veranda. Mrs. Wall (Barbara) is an innkeeper who likes to give her guests their space, so everything they might need, from an ironing board to a cold drink, can be found in the rooms. There are also small refrigerators, coffeemakers, and microwaves in each. Continental breakfast is served in the rooms, but guests are welcome to spend their time in the other parts of the inn, including the parlor and dining room. Barbara says that guests are delighted and surprised by the serene ambience that exudes from their stays at her inn. There is no exterior signage. This inn is closed during the week of St. Patrick’s Day. Children and pets are not allowed.
