Description: This redbrick stadium, with a capacity of around 15,000, sits at the north end of the Drake campus and is home to Drake football and track and field. Since opening in 1925 it has also hosted the Drake Relays, as well as several collegiate and professional track and field championship meets, as well as the annual Iowa high school track and field championships. The stadium underwent a $15 million renovation in 2005, which focused on improvements to the track and reduced the stadium’s seating capacity somewhat. Olympic gold medalists including Jesse Owens, Bruce Jenner, Carl Lewis, Michael Johnson, and Bob Hayes have all streaked down the Drake Stadium track. High school football games are held here on fall Fri nights. Parking can be tricky once the small lot fills up—you’ll have to search on nearby residential streets.
