Description: Founded in 1966 when a group of passionate locals banded together to save Chicago’s historic Glessner House, the Chicago Architecture Foundation has since evolved into one of the most important advocates for architecture and design in the city. Its 480 fully trained volunteers lead nearly 90 different tours, and present exhibits, lecture series, workshops, and special events throughout the year. Its home base in the Santa Fe Building across from Grant Park features the permanent exhibit “Chicago Model City,” which includes a large scale model of Chicago and gives you an intro to the city before embarking on a tour or setting out for exploring on your own. Also hosted here, every third Sunday of the month from Sept through May is CAFamily Studio, free programming geared toward kids ages 3 to 12. Be sure to stop at the top-notch gift shop where you’ll find a creative selection of architecture- and Chicago-centric housewares, games, gifts, cards, jewelry, and more. Free admission to exhibits; tour fees vary. Open daily.
