Description: See videos of deep submersible Alvin, explore interactive exhibits about whale and dolphin research, and watch colorful footage of the creatures that live along deep-sea hydrothermal vents. Then step into a full-size model of Alvin’s inner sphere and imagine your own life aquatic on the ocean floor. The exhibit center is open Apr through Dec: by appointment only in Apr; Mon through Sat, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., from May through Oct; and Tues through Fri, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Nov and Dec. Donations are requested. From late June to early Sept, you can also take a guided tour of the WHOI dock area and other research facilities. These tours leave from the WHOI Information Office at 93 Water Street Mon through Fri at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and last about 75 minutes. Call to reserve a spot because space is limited.
