Description: Good Samaritan was founded in 1968 through a gift from Thomas O’Neill, a local merchant and philanthropist. O’Neill set the condition that all activities at the hospital conform to the Catholic Principles, as set by the U.S. National Conference of Catholic Bishops. This means that abortions and in vitro fertilizations are not performed here. Through an arrangement with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, the hospital provides orthopedics, rehabilitation medicine, and rheumatology. A MedStar hospital, it is located on a 43-acre site in northeastern Baltimore City, where its 346 beds and 2,300 employees provide care to northern Baltimore City and the greater Towson area. The Emergency Department sees more than 23,000 patients a year, and the hospital’s Good Health Center offers free and low-cost preventive medical services. The hospital also offers 69 rehabilitation beds and a 24-station renal dialysis unit. Specialties include medical/surgical care, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatric care, and emergency care. Good Samaritan is one of the top 10 hospitals for complex knee surgery.
