Description: Formerly known as Francis Scott Key Medical Center, this 700-bed community teaching hospital has evolved, since 1773, from an alms house to an asylum to a municipal hospital before having its ownership transferred from the city to Johns Hopkins Hospital and University in 1984. Staffed by physicians who are primarily full-time faculty at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the hospital serves as a satellite to the bigger Hopkins hospital campus, although it has its own areas of specialty, too. Bayview’s employees work on a beautiful and growing 130-acre campus, featuring jogging trails and a community park-like environment. The hospital’s Francis Scott Key Burn Center does amazing work for people suffering from serious burns. The hospital is home to one of Maryland’s most comprehensive neonatal intensive care units, a sleep disorder center, an area-wide trauma center, and a geriatrics center.
