Description: The first Catholic hospital in Baltimore, St. Agnes was founded by the Daughters of Charity in 1823 so they could provide nursing care to the poor. The 307-bed hospital moved to its current location, Caton Avenue at Wilkens Avenue, in 1876 and reorganized into a full-service hospital in 1906. Part of St. Agnes HealthCare, an integrated delivery system for all levels of medical care with numerous off-site centers, the hospital’s 3,086 employees are part of the Maryland Health Network that provides health services to about three million residents of Maryland and the Washington suburbs. The full-service teaching hospital has residency programs in a number of surgical specialties including a cancer center, bariatric center, blood disorders, chest pain emergency center, and cardiovascular services. The emergency department includes pediatric, adult, and urgent care.
