In 1923 its name was changed to honor the people who contributed to its founding and development. One of the first community hospitals in the nation to support graduate medical education, the hospital supports about 85 residents and fellows in areas ranging from sports medicine and orthopedics to foot surgery and obstetrics and gynecology. The hospital is nationally known for its orthopedic program, including the Curtis National Hand Center and the Sports Medicine Program. It’s also the Baltimore Raven’s official medical team. Union Memorial’s more than 2,000 employees serve the people of northern Baltimore and greater Towson. The hospital is close to Johns Hopkins University and the other colleges in the area. Specialties include mental health services, oncology, cardiac and surgery services, and women’s services at the Calvert Women’s Group Center.
