Description: Located in the 1865 Platt Oyster Cannery building on the west side of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, this museum allows visitors to experience the industries that made the city one of the busiest ports in the nation. Founded in 1977, it is dedicated to remembering and sharing the industrial and technological heritage of the area and the people who created and worked in them. Learn about the long workdays at a belt-driven machine shop, a garment loft, a print shop, and aboard the historic 1906 steam tugboat the S.T. Baltimore. Life-size photos of children working in the industries help bring home the harsh conditions to today’s children. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed on Monday and occasionally for a private event. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for those age 5 through 18 and senior citizens. From June through October, you can shop at the farmers’ market for fresh produce, Dangerously Delicious pies, and hand-crafted works.
