Description: Made into a household name with the airing of TV’s 1977 landmark miniseries Roots, Kunta Kinte was brought into the harsh New World at the Port of Annapolis. Formerly held in August, the festival now takes place in September to honor Kunta Kinte’s actual arrival date, September 29. In honor of Kunta Kinte and generations of succeeding African Americans, you’ll find educational programs, crafts exhibits, and demonstrations, along with entertainment ranging from gospel singers to calypso. Admission fee applies.
