Description: The accolades that this 18th-century farmhouse has garnered are fairly astounding. How about one of the top 50 restaurants in America? That’s what Gourmet magazine said in its October 2006 issue. Or one of the 10 most romantic restaurants in the country? That’s Bon Appetit speaking. Or “hands down the best dining in the area”? That would be the influential Zagat Survey. The place is indeed very, very good. (It also happens to have a savvy press person.) And the goodness starts in the garden. Arrows is now famous for its produce, which it grows right on-site (guests are welcome to wander the grounds). The menu tends to favor whatever’s in season, and every element on the plate is integral. Main courses—and there are usually only about a half dozen choices—might include grilled veal rib chop and crispy Arborio rice; Alaskan wild king salmon wrapped in papillote with spring leeks and black truffles; or Maine lobster and sautéed jumbo Maine sea scallops with a ginger noodle pillow, spring vegetables, and a rhubarb, pinot blanc, and Sichuan peppercorn sauce. There’s a tasting menu as well. Be sure not to wear jeans or shorts or jean shorts or you won’t be seated—guests are encouraged to dress up. Reservations are a good idea. Open at 6 p.m. for dinner Wednesday through Sunday in June and September, Tuesday through Sunday in July and August. Hours are reduced in the off season.
