Description: On a quiet residential side street, the Berry Manor Inn is one impressive place—it’s one of the finest old homes in all of Rock City and arguably the place to stay. (It is also the only historic inn in the Midcoast to receive a Four-Diamond rating from AAA and was named one of the top 10 B&Bs and inns in the country by TripAdvisor in 2008.) Built in 1898 as a giant Victorian wedding gift, the inn is quite luxurious by local standards, with a dozen large rooms split between the original home and the adjacent carriage house. All but one of the guest chambers has its own fireplace, each has a private bath, and they are furnished and decorated in grand style with all sorts of fancy flourishes like sleigh beds, four-posters, and antique rockers. But not at the expense of comfort: Owners Cheryl Michaelsen and Mike LaPosta, exactly the kind of B&B hosts you want, made sure to incorporate such contemporary necessities as stuffed chairs and cozy robes. Downtown Rockland and its great restaurants are only a few blocks away—but you might not want to ever leave your room. Great reduced rates in the off-season.
