Description: Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) is the leading art educator in the Twin Cities. Since 1886 MCAD has served area art students. Today the art college shares a large portion of the state-of–the-art Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) building. MIA is one of three excellent art museums in Minneapolis, all within a few miles of MCAD. MCAD programs are available in more than 20 fields, which include comic art, advertising, and photography, plus business-friendly areas of art, such as furniture design and advertising design. Besides the rigorous studio art portion of most majors, important foundation and liberal arts courses are required. MCAD confers many specialized graduate degrees. Offered are masters of fine arts programs as well as one-year postbaccalaureate and certificate programs in design, fine arts, and media arts. MCAD’s continuing education courses are open to the general public, and include distance learning and design programs.
