1. Noerenberg Memorial Gardens

City: Wayzata, MN
Category: Parks & Recreation
Telephone: (763) 559-6700
Address: 2865 Northshore Dr.

Description: In 1972 the last surviving child of Frederick and Johanna Noerenberg—heirs to the Grain Belt brewery fortune—bequeathed the family lakeside estate to Hennepin County. The bequest stipulated that the 73 acres of flower beds, shade trees, and ornamental grasses be opened to the public.Today the park features beautifully sculpted flower gardens that include unusual annuals and perennials, an assortment of grasses, and a large daylily collection. The park is a beautiful spot to stroll through and enjoy the flowers—however, part of the bequest of the Noerenberg family states that no picnics or boating activities are to be permitted on the premises, so light hiking and sightseeing covers the range of what park visitors can do here. The gardens are a very popular spot for weddings.
