Description: When Baptist Medical Center and Trinity Lutheran Hospital merged in 2000, they created a new entity to serve the south Kansas City community better. Licensed for 354 beds, the medical center is located on a 37-acre campus that includes outpatient facilities, medial office buildings, and a Pavilion Health Club that’s dedicated to the rehabilitation and prevention of illness and disease. Baptist-Lutheran has approximately 1,000 employees and more than 700 physicians on its medical staff. In addition to the traditional hospital services such as emergency, critical care, surgery, and other offerings, the center maintains the Center for Radiation Therapy; the Goppert Family Care Center, an extended-hour program that treats all aspects of the community’s health needs; and the Center for Eye Surgery, which provides glaucoma and cataract surgery and features two suites specifically for laser procedures. The Pain Management department (816-276-7094) provides services relating to acute and chronic inpatient and outpatient situations. Patients can be referred by their physicians or self-admitted. The medical center is involved with several community activities. It teams with the Yellow Cab Company to provide free rides home to people who can’t (or shouldn’t) drive from restaurants, parties, or bars during the holidays. Since its inception, Holiday Cab has provided more than 23,000 rides. Baptist-Lutheran is the exclusive local provider of the Lifeline 24-hour emergency response system. Subscribers keep a small pager with them at all times, so help is just a push-button away.
