Description: When readers of KC Magazine named this the best steakhouse in town, they raised a few eyebrows. Frankly, it’s rare that a transplant—and a national chain at that—can win the hearts of such a loyal crowd. But this ultraplush restaurant earns its accolades. There’s even a signature martini, the Stoli Doli, made with slices of pineapple marinating in glass crocks of Stolichnaya vodka on the bar. Trust us; they’re as potent as they are delicious. As you’re escorted to your table, you’ll pass the glass case where beef is dry aging for fourteen to twenty-one days. When they’re at the peak of flavor, steaks are hand-cut, well seasoned, and seared at 1,100 degrees Fahrenheit to seal in the juices and provide that distinctive caramelized crust. Dinners can start with cold baby lobster with confetti mayonnaise, a sinfully rich lobster bisque, or the “Wedge,” an enormous portion of iceberg lettuce with blue cheese and crumbled bacon. As for lunch, the steak salad is large enough for two, or one diner with dreams of a second meal. Service is refined yet friendly, with servers who say “My pleasure” to any request—and mean it. Don’t be surprised if you receive a handwritten note a day or two after your visit. An impressive wine list includes more than 300 bottles ranging from $27 to well over $500. And true wine connoisseurs will appreciate the fine crystal glassware without a rolled rim. At about $12 a stem, it’s an investment in quality that sets the right tone. Wine lockers are available to store your personal collection; the brass plaques lining the wall read like a “Who’s Who” of Kansas City elite. If you need one more reason to make a reservation, consider the deep-dish Key lime pie with toasted pistachio crust. The restaurant is open for lunch on weekdays and dinner seven days a week, including a 9 p.m. last call on Sun.
