Description: Built in 1924, the dignified Vernon Manor Hotel was the site of a scene in the Academy Award–winning movie Rain Man and the subject of several mentions in the movie. This is one of the best hotels that’s convenient to both the Pill Hill hospital district and the University of Cincinnati. The hotel has two fine restaurants downstairs that are popular for business lunches and great Sunday brunches. The lounge, Club 400, is a friendly spot the hotel manager describes as “a lounge where you’ll still be married when you leave.” The hotel’s authentic reproduction of an English manor includes a panoramic view of the city from its rooftop garden. And rare is the Saturday when there aren’t multiple wedding receptions going on here. Its old-world dignity aside, the Vernon Manor in many ways has the look and feel more of an apartment building than a hotel. Many of its 177 rooms and 58 suites have kitchens with refrigerators and microwaves, so it’s well suited for extended stays. The staff prides itself on providing friendly, informal, first-name service for folks who may have loved ones at nearby hospitals or who just like to loosen their ties after a long day of work. The hotel has won accreditation as a Historic Hotel of America.
