Description: The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) is located north of 2nd Street between N. Bryant and Boulevard in Edmond. Edmond is a northern suburb of Oklahoma City. The largest parking area is on the east side of the campus. The football stadium and home to the UCO Bronchos football team is located on the north side of the campus. This beautiful campus sits on 210 acres. This university was established in 1890 when the first territorial legislature met. George Gardenhire, first Senate President, suggested Edmond get the state’s teachers’ school. Today, it is Oklahoma’s third largest school with an enrollment of 16,000. Forty one percent of its students are 21 to 25 years of age, 12 percent are 26 to 30, 15 percent are 31 years old and over. About 92 percent of the students studying here are from Oklahoma, which speaks to this school’s popularity in-state. The college has 112 undergraduate majors and 54 graduate programs. It offers bachelor’s degrees in actuarial science, creative writing, dance education, and humanities. Jazz studies and athletic training students can receive a master’s. The University of Central Oklahoma is the only college in Oklahoma to offer these. The college also offers programs in forensic science, mass communications, music theatre, and nursing.Following the nation’s green initiative, the University is working on its own “green” status. Currently, it is utilizing 100 percent wind power, has its own campus wide recycling program, and is turning used cooking oil in to biodiesel fuel in its own manufacturing facility. It has been nationally recognized for its efforts.
