Description: For those who are ready to plunge into creative stimulation, an interesting option is the moderately priced Adult and Community Education Programs, sponsored jointly by the Charleston County School District and the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission. Categories of classes encompass arts and crafts, business and vocational concerns, computers, culinary arts, fitness and health, language arts, sports, and special interests. The 10 community schools across Charleston County are the sites of the classroom instruction. Offerings run the gamut from 1-night, free sessions to 6-week classes with fees of up to $150. Charleston County residents age 60 and older may request a Gold Card by calling (843) 937-6414 which allows a 20 percent discount off of class fees. Pick up information on the quarterly programs from the county school district offices on Calhoun Street or at Charleston County libraries. Please note that the district does not mail out class schedules.
