Description: Ed Grimball’s walking tour of Charleston is a keeper for your memory book. He’s a born-and-raised Charlestonian whose family settled on nearby Edisto Island. He knows and loves the city as only a native son can. As a registered tour guide, his entertaining insights and stories run the gamut from architecture and colonial history to the Civil War and the great earthquake of 1886. He’s familiar with the stories of the heroes and statesmen, the scoundrels and bizarre characters who’ve helped make Charleston history what it is—endlessly fascinating. Tours last about 2½ hours and depart from the Pineapple Fountain in downtown’s Waterfront Park starting at 9:30 a.m., most Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Call for more information or special tour arrangements. The charge is $16 for adults and $8 for children 7 to 12. Reservations are required. He goes rain or shine—even in the heat of summer. Complimentary ice water is provided about an hour after the tour begins (from the middle of May through the end of Aug). Nice touch in our Charleston climate!
