Description: Those who find themselves downtown in the vicinity of 108 Meeting St. (across from the Mills House) have another option for starting their historic Charleston odyssey. The Shops of Historic Charleston Foundation is its official name, but it’s the Historic Charleston Foundation’s version of visitor orientation. You’ll find a well-planned cultural and architectural overview and free and friendly tourist advice. The shop carries a fine array of merchandise, including many items from the foundation’s Reproduction Collections. You’ll find a comprehensive selection of books and reference materials relating to preservation, restoration, and Charleston’s 18th- and 19th-century cultural life. You can also buy tickets for the foundation’s signature house museum, the Nathaniel Russell House, and Middleton Place Foundation’s Edmondston-Alston House. The Shops of Historic Charleston Foundation is open Mon through Sat from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sun hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
