Description: Harbor House Inn (circa 1765) is located directly on Georgetown’s working waterfront. It is, in fact, Georgetown’s only historic, waterfront B&B. Sailors say its distinctive red roof is visible 3 miles out across the bay. Harbor House has welcomed seafarers from across the globe for more than two centuries. The imposing three-story Georgian house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, gracing the banks of the Sampit River from a bluff amid magnolia trees, camellias, and venerable live oaks. Harbor House is within walking distance to main-street stores. restaurants, and the historic district of Georgetown.The house is accompanied by another monument of South Carolina history—the Red Store. This circa-1740 shipping warehouse formerly stored silks, indigo, and imported wines. From shaded rockers on the inn’s porch, visitors can view sailing ships and the blue waters of Winyah Bay—a view that has remained unchanged for centuries.Innkeeper Meg Tarbox runs the immaculately restored house, keeping the original heart pine floors gleaming and dust off family antiques, eight fireplaces, and Oriental carpets. Meg is a Georgetown native with an intimate knowledge of her area.The inn offers four beautifully appointed rooms with private baths and waterfront view. In addition to the popular porch rockers, guests can share the joggling board, piano, bicycles, games, and books. Smoking is permitted on the open-air porches.
