There are currently two terminals with one security checkpoint, and the first phase of a $130 million airport expansion is under way. Plans call for creating a state-of-the-art facility as well as increasing the number of gates from 7 to 12. In addition, under the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Myrtle Beach Airport was awarded two grants for expansion. The nearly $7 million of stimulus money will allow for terminal ramp reconstruction and new airfield lighting. Flights are offered by US Airways, Delta Airlines, Continental Airways, Northwest, Spirit, United Airlines, and Myrtle Beach Direct Air. After years of being serviced largely by commuter planes, most airlines flying into the Beach utilize full-size jets.Direct flights to and from Myrtle Beach are available for Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago O’Hare, Detroit, New York–LaGuardia, Newark, Niagara Falls, and Washington Dulles International Airport.Airline reservation numbers include: Delta, (800) 221-1212; Continental, (800) 525-0280; Myrtle Beach Direct, (877) 432-3472; Northwest, (800) 225-2525; United, (800) 241-6522; and US Airways, (800) 428-4322.
