Description: Held year-round at Art Works in the Litchfield Exchange, CLASS (Community Learning About Special Subjects) is an exciting addition to senior life for students from Myrtle Beach to Georgetown. Taught by talented and well-qualified instructors, classes range from single-day workshops to eight-week courses that meet once a week during the day and evening. Whether you are a native or new to the area, CLASS provides a casual environment for meeting people with common interests and for exploring subjects seniors may have been interested about but never had time to pursue. As research findings continue to emphasize the importance of exercising the mind as well as the body, CLASS offers many programs that combine mental, sensory, and social stimulation. Subjects include cultural appreciation (art, music, film, literature), history (local and beyond), hands-on learning (computers, bridge, genealogy, cooking, herb gardening, handwriting analysis, creative writing, interior design), art instruction for beginners and accomplished artists in a variety of media (drawing, painting, portraiture, photography, stained glass), and a variety of personal-growth opportunities. Capping each week is The Moveable Feast, a series of literary luncheons featuring accomplished authors and held at different Waccamaw Neck restaurants. The fall, winter, and spring terms include approximately 60 courses. Around 30 courses are planned during the summer months for short-term visitors. A complete schedule is available on the Web site.
