Description: The Horry County Council On Aging realized the fruits of its labor in 1995 when this senior center opened its doors. This $1.4 million project offers seniors 16,000 square feet of space, including an auditorium, kitchen, dressing rooms, and meeting chambers. Open Mon through Fri from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the senior center plays host to a dizzying schedule of events: arts and crafts, bridge, dance aerobics, yoga, mah-jongg (a game of Chinese origin similar to dominoes), bingo for prizes, health screening, ballroom dancing, art classes, chess, support groups, quilting . . . let us catch our breath . . . seminars, and tax-preparation instruction. You would have to have the energy of two preteens on summer vacation to keep up with all of the center’s activities! The Seniors for the Performing Arts theatrical troupe performs in the auditorium full-production plays that have become very popular with senior-center members and locals alike. Regular luncheons are also part of the center’s monthly agenda. There is no membership fee. New volunteers are always welcome.
