Description: University faculty and professionals from the community teach a variety of intellectual, cultural, and social classes. No formal papers or exams are required of the senior students. There is no membership fee to join the Osher Lifelong program; you are an automatic member if you have taken classes at Coastal. Membership entitles participants to use of the campus facilities and student rates to University cultural events and performances. Members also have the opportunity to attend special workshops, travel-study programs, and sessions at the university. Past course offerings have included literature and film, computer classes, political science, history of China, the Aztecs, heroes and villains in American History, and art and music. There are also courses in ecology, marine science, genealogy, foreign languages, folklore, creative writing, and philosophy.Adult noncredit students pay course tuition, and anyone enrolled in at least one course will be considered a Lifelong Learning student. Lifelong Learning students may take courses at any or all of Coastal’s four sites: the Coastal campus, the Waccamaw Center, the Myrtle Beach Center, and the Georgetown Center. Students may register at any of the sites or may register online. More than 200 courses are offered by 76 instructors.
