Description: This popular restaurant, formerly called the Historical Rushmore Grill & Bar, is a block and a half east of the Strip (Winter Street, the town’s main drag) in Keystone, but its reputation for authentic, made-from-scratch Mexican food draws hungry crowds in search of the cook’s famous fajitas and other specialties served in heaping portions for lunch and dinner. Cajun blackened prime rib is on the menu, and so are half-pound buffalo and beef burgers, steaks, Cajun chicken sandwiches, and shrimp and taco salads, to name a few of the choices. A So-Sweet Burrito filled with apple and pineapple pie filling, deep fried and garnished with ice cream, three toppings, whipped cream, and a cherry is a special-request-only dessert that could pose as a meal in itself. The bar—note the ornate, century-old back bar from a longago Custer watering hole—serves highly regarded margaritas frozen, blended, or on the rocks, as well as beer, wine, and other cocktails. After many years of operation, the restaurant moved into larger quarters and added a sports bar in the basement. There’s also a covered deck for outdoor dining. During the summer when it’s busy, reservations are recommended for parties of seven or more.
