Description: Who can pass up an opportunity to dig into some delicious homemade ice cream on a hot August day? Every year on the first Sun in Aug, 250 to 300 ice cream makers crank out dozens of their favorite frozen concoctions for you to sample. Categories are vanilla/vanilla base, chocolate, specialties (sorbets, yogurts, sherberts), and fruit. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs, find a comfortable spot on the lawn, kick back, and enjoy every rich and creamy spoonful. Adults can enjoy the live music while kids play games. A stacking contest features area ministers in a 2-minute race to see who can stack the most scoops of ice cream on a cone. While you’re enjoying the tasty treats, volunteer judges are choosing the best in each category. Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 on the day of the event. Children under age 3 are admitted free. Proceeds benefit the Martha O’Bryan Center, a family-services center serving the James A. Cayce Homes and surrounding east Nashville communities.
