Description: At Monell’s on Sixth Avenue you sit at a big table with other guests and enjoy an all-you-can-eat family-style meal. Guests pass bowls and platters of food around the table and serve themselves. The food is Southern, with entrees like meat loaf, fried chicken, and country-fried steak; plenty of fresh vegetables; home-cooked side dishes; biscuits; and corn muffins. Monell’s original location on Sixth Avenue N. is in Germantown in a renovated Victorian house next door to the Mad Platter. Monell’s is open for lunch Mon through Fri, for dinner Tues through Sat, and for “Sunday dinner” (also known as lunch) until around 3:30 p.m. Sun. Breakfast is also served Sat and Sun. Monell’s doesn’t serve alcohol, but you can bring your own wine. Seating is first come, first served. Cafe Monell’s at the Hermitage features the same menu, but it’s served cafeteria-style. The Hermitage restaurant is open for lunch daily.
