Description: With its original location situated right along the Cincinnati Avenue Entertainment District, this family-owned, family-style restaurant is an El Paso institution. Casa Jurado has been serving phenomenal Mexican food here for almost three decades and recently expanded to a second location on the Westside at 4772 Doniphan Dr. (915-833-1157). The original restaurant is sandwiched in between a café and a bar, making it easy to overlook, but make no mistake, the food here is no-frills delicious. Casa Jurado’s menu includes just about every type of traditional Mexican cuisine, from enchiladas to pollo en mole (mole chicken) and pescado ala Veracruzana (Veracruz fish). One particular menu highlight is the flauta plate—a beautiful concoction of four rolled tacos surrounded by fresh Spanish rice, beans and guacamole, and topped with chile con queso. The decor inside is minimal but bright, with festive colors that keep it in line with the convivial, party atmosphere of the rest of the street. Casa Jurado serves a nice variety of wines and beers and the Doniphan Drive location on the Westside has a full bar. If you’re planning to go out drinking on Cincinnati Avenue, this is a great place to stock up on hearty food beforehand.
