Fall Festival Of Folklife - Annual Events & Festivals - Williamsburg, Virginia

City: Williamsburg, VA
Category: Annual Events & Festivals
Telephone: (757) 926-1400

Description: This free event, held on the first full weekend in October, is billed as Southeast Virginia’s biggest traditional craft show, featuring over 200 vendors. It’s kid-friendly, too. A children’s area has stage shows, hands-on crafts, and sheep-shearing, candle-making, and weaving demonstrations. There’s also a folk dance stage, where spectators can see Native American, African, international, and square dancing presented in the round. The 2009 event drew 70,000, warranting two bits of advice: Arrive early because on-site parking (which costs $10) can be an extended ordeal; and eat early, as lines at the 30 food vendors tend to get really long, leaving you ravenous by the time you get a chance to dig into your pit-cooked steak sandwich and butterfly fries. Leave Fido at home. No pets are permitted.
