Remarks: PILOT REPTD HE WAS ON L DOWNWIND LEG OF A TRAFFIC PATTERN WHEN A LARGE BUZZARD STRUCK THE LEADING EDGE OF THE LEFT WING. PILOT REPORTED THERE WERE NO DIFFICULTIES MAINTAINING CONTROL OF THE A/C AND THAT HE WAS ABLE TO MAKE A NORMAL LDG. INSPN FOUND SUBSTANTIAL DMG TO WING'S RIB STRUCTURE.

Remarks: A/C CRASHED DURING ABORTED T/O. AFTR V1, CREW HEARD A LOUD BANG AFTER WHICH THE A/C SWERVBED LEFT. PILOT LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL & WENT OFF END OF RWY, HIT TREES , CROSSED A ROAD & CAME TO REST IN A FIELD. SUBSTANTIAL DMG. NO SERIOUS INJURIES. NTSB SAID SMALL ORGANIC FIBERS THAT APPEARED TO BE FROM A BIRD WERE FOUND ON THE COMBUSITION CHAMBER MATING FLANGE AND THRUOUT THE 2ND STAGE TURBINE NOZZLE OF L ENG. (G.A. MORSE,EXPERT ON ENGINE DAMAGE SAID, "I AM NOT SURE THIS IS A BIRD STRIKE. FINDING FIBERS IN THE HOT SECTION IS SURPRISING FOR BIRD REMAINS. I WOULD THINK THE #1 STAGE BLADES WOULD BE COVERED WITH TISSUE MATTER IF IT WERE A BIRD, PARTICULARLY WHEN THEY SEE FIBERS ON THE INLET FRAME.

Remarks: SAW 2 DEER. HIT 1 W/ L PROP. ENG STOPPED AFTER STRIKE. A/C SHOULD HAVE DEER WHISTLES MOUNTED ON THEM TO SCARE DEER AWAY. ALSO HIGH BEAM, LONGER DISTANCE LDNG LIGHTS MIGHT HAVE HELPED TO SEE THE DEER WHILE WE WERE STILL IN THE AIR. COMMUTER AIRCRAFT.
