Coast to Crest Trail


The Coast to Crest Trail, located near Julian, CA, is still under construction, but several sections are open for public use. Once completed, the multi-use trail will cover a total of 55 miles and link the Del Mar coast to the Volcan Mountain, which is situated in the San Dieguito River Park. Hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders are welcome to enjoy the slights and along the trail.

The Coast to Crest trail traverses several different types of landscape, climate zones and habitats. Scenic points and general views from the trail provide a cross section of San Diego County for visitors to explore. Many species of wildlife can be found within the park including mule deer, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes, and grey foxes. Eagles both bald and golden also breed on the Volcan Mountain.

Other nearby attractions includes the San Diego Wild Animal Park, also located within the San Dieguito River Park and the historic gold rush town of Julian. The town is an hour east of San Diego and provides a convenient and relaxing place for guests who wish to visit the nearby national parks and trails. Julian is known for their apple orchards and offers guests with several specialty shops and year-round events.
