Eastside Reservoir Project

Eastside Reservoir Project is based in Idyllwild, California near Diamond Valley Lake. It is a joint venture between Kiewit and LED. The Project Management team is URS Greiner Woodward Clyde. The cost for the project has been estimated at 1.9 billion dollars. The reservoir when complete will have 987 million cubic meters for its capacity. The construction will be earth core and rock fill.

The Eastside Reservoir Project was started in order to get more water to California. Two mountains are being used to create a natural barrier: Domenigoni and Diamond Valley. The project is in Riverside County about 90 miles from Los Angeles. The project was also named Diamond Valley Lake because the lake supplies the water and has done so for 60 years.

The construction created three dams. These three dams were scheduled to be completed in 1999, with the reservoir site done in 2002. The process for filling the site required 4,500 acres of reservoir space. The project is nearly complete as of 2010 providing water for seasonal, drought and emergency needs. Water is also sent from the Colorado River Aqueduct to feed the reservoir before going to San Diego Canal. During the project excavation was required.
