Surfrider Beach

Malibu Lagoon meets with Malibu Creek before pouring into the Pacific Ocean. It is this location that offers residents and visitors a place to relax on the beach- Surfrider Beach. Surfrider Beach has the distinction of being the premier surfing beach in the Malibu, California area.

Among other attractions to the area is Malibu Creek Bridge, which is near Malibu Pier. The pier is known for its saltwater fishing. To the west of the bridge is an area for picnic tables and a natural area. It is a site for bird watching. It is also known for its environmental diversity since the western side is a saltwater marsh.

Malibu Lagoon and therefore Surfrider Beach is all part of the state beach system. In the state beach acreage there is the Adamson House. This historical site was built in 1929 as a house for Frederick Hastings Rindge's daughter. Rhoda Adamson lived in the residence, which is a Spanish-Moor revival architectural delight. Many tiles were from Malibu Potteries. The house overlooks Surfrider Beach. Nearby is Malibu Lagoon Museum. The museum is another place to learn about history, especially that of the Chumash Indian Tribe that lived in California for centuries before Spanish occupation.
