The Kern Valley Museum

The Kern Valley Museum is an important building for prehistoric to present artifacts. Many of the exhibits have come from Kernville, California and others from surrounding areas and states. The museum has a large fossil and geological exhibit, mining and ranching paraphernalia, movie making history, history on Isabella Dam, and a history of the Edison Hydroelectric Plant conception.

The Kern Valley Museum is located at 49 Big Blue Road. The museum hours are 10am to 4pm Thursday through Sunday. Admission is free, though donations are welcome. Donations are how the museum is able to add to their collection and remain open for visitors.

The museum can be split into sections including museum exhibits, backyard exhibits, art gallery, Cowboy History, History Days, Activities and Events, and fundraiser options. The Kern Valley Museum is part of the Historical Society and has been in operation for 40 years. The Backyard Exhibits are outside because they were too large to fit in the building. There is a covered wagon, stamp mill, stagecoach, work wagon, and a restored 110 year old cabin. Also outside is the 1925 Graham Truck, which was restored. It does run now that it has been restored.
