Travis Air Base Museum

If you are resident of or visitor to Fairfield, California, take some time to enjoy the Travis Air Base Museum. This is a great place to learn about aviation and the United States Air Force. It makes a great group tour opportunity or field trip, or families can explore the base on their own. Tours are limited if you do not have a Department of Defense ID card, but they can be scheduled. The base must make security its first responsibility, so take that into account when attempting to tour the facility. Tours are usually held on Thursdays and last about three hours. They are on a first come first serve basis and are popular, so contact the base early if you are interested. Groups usually contain about 25 to 40 attendees. Those interested in joining the air force or junior ROTC students are favored when tours are scheduled. The base schedules flyovers for community events. They are associated with events that highlight aviation, honor the armed forces, help recruiting, or celebrate patriotic holidays. Requesting a flyover takes at least 90 days, so plan your request far enough in advance of your event. The base also provides educational speakers for events and special occasions. Topics include law enforcement, flying and aviation safety, joining the Air Force, leadership, civil service, science, and history.
