Twenty Mule Team Canyon

Death Valley Junction is outside of Death Valley National Park, California as an unincorporated village. Visitors wishing to see Twenty Mule Team Canyon can go through the junction along highway 190 to the turn off point for Twenty Mule Team Canyon Road.

The road is 2.7 miles one way as an off road trail. It takes visitors into the heart of the canyon with desert mountains and rock walls rising around them. The road often has large rocks and boulders that require high clearance vehicles or ATVs to get around. The canyon can get flash floods and mudslides which means visitors should check with the NPS to see if the road is open. After rain it has to be closed for repairs. The road itself is unremarkable, but the views from the canyon and some of the northern points are worth the trek. Some of the buttes date to 500 million years ago. Old Monte Blanco Mine is in the area, as are 300 miles of other trails one can take.

The name was given to the canyon for Coleman who owned a Borax mining company, despite the fact the road was not on the original trail.
